Destiny islands

Hydra, Poros

"If 20 years ago I did not go to the same cruise that we are now, you would never be born!" -said I to two my children. "What you mean?" -asked my son. And I told them my story....
It was January 1995. I lived in Moscow then. I bought the tour to Athens for a week. First of all I forgot to take the watch with me. It was very uncomfortable as I stay alone in the room. We were offered a lot of day trips by our rep. I choose 1 day cruise of 3 Greek islands: Hydra, Poros, Aegina.
I asked to wake me up early in the morning, but did not sleep well as worry to oversleep. In the morning I felt so bad that doubted if I should go. But money were payed and after some vodka (it helps me from shaking after sleepless night) I decided to go.
1st island was Hydra. We were giving about 1hour free time there and I went to see the island. Most buildings there are situated on the hill, some houses were like few levels, like one door going to one street, another to the street below and so on. There no transport on the island. I felt and look horrible! hardly had any breakfast. Then I felt the smell of fresh bread and like a dog was following to that smell...
There was a bakery and the baker backened me. I thought it's some sort of cafe as there was a table, he pointed to the chair and started doing me the tea, then he gave me few fresh scones and roles... Then tea was ready I could not explain him thet tea too hot and I need some cold water as he only could speak unknown to me Greek. He only smiled while I had the tea and bread...
Then he went out, door was open, then came back, smiled to me and then shut the door. It got locked! Anyway I could not open it! waited a bit I start paniking and knocking the door, all in vain! I did not know the time and worry that will be late! Then I try to escape going to other rooms which were open... look like it was baking shop, some stoves, cutteries, buckets and so... Some steps upstease, them downstease, no windowers.... like a maze! I could not find the way on my first room either.... Not sure how long it was till I saw a slide going down... and like my last chance of the freedom slded down! I landed on the seller without the selling, i tryed to claim up, but it was too hight, then I had an idea!! There were steps back wich I used to go back to pick up a bucket, slided down with it again, then stood on it and climbed out! I fount myself on the street with I could not understand how was connected with that where was bakery front door! I found the way to the port, it was not hard but I only saw my boat already left about a mile away from the shore....
I started to cry and screem and beckoned the boat, all in vain. Some local were fishing there, somehow by signs I managed to explained them what was going on! And they helped, not sure how but boat came back for me!
On next island Poros we were going only 40 min. I was so worring to be late again thet stayed near port. Quickly looked souvenier shop I waited in small beach near the boat. I did not know time as did not have watch. There was a man sitting on that beach. I asked him a time in English, he answered on clear English. It was about 10 min left before the boat saled and we had some chat with him... I left him my address as well as to many others on that holiday... After ab 2 years he became my husband and brought me to England. It did not work out with him, we divorced, but already in UK I met my last husband and had children with him. But it's really irony that if I did not go to that cruise, my children were not exist! If the baker did not lock me and I had a watch with me, I would not sit on that beach and would no need to ask the stranger the time... and then my children never be born! What a destiny!!!
